Here’s a hilarious blog about eating in Saskatoon, although I’m not sure they are aware of it. The experts at saskatoonslop.com brag about “eating at Boston Pizza over 50 times” I’d imagine it’s a rip off of the successful and interesting blog Vancouverslop.com and NewYorkslop.com which created this awesome t-shirt.

Demer’s Christmas Tradition

Demer's Christmas Tradition

One of Megan’s family christmas traditions has been fried oysters. Over the years we have persuaded Marilyn, the family matriarch and defender of all things traditional, to alter the recipe. First we substituted panko for the crushed satines, and this year we used fresh shucked malpeque oysters. Even Marilyn had a nod of approval.

Salmon Tartar

Salmon Tartar

Delicious new dish at Sushiro. Served with greens, lotus root and garlic chips, and a delicate basil oil. Yum!

Grilled Chicken Ramen with Our Local Morels!

Grilled Chicken Ramen with Our Local Morels!

I know that in some restaurants in Saskatoon, the “local” caption has been beaten to death. Even trotting it out for local beef. “Because you know ranch land is at such a premium on the prairies, and our beef is very rare and specialized.”  That said I did get a real kick out of foraging for morels and enjoying them in a japanese style ramen noodle soup. The mushrooms really added, I dunno, body(?) to the soup broth. Though, I heard this year was bunk for morel hunters(too much rain), these were the nicest and most abundant we’ve ever seen!

Ps, About a week earlier I saw morels for sale at the Granville Island Public Market for $54 a pound!

the mutherf@#!ing jump off!

Welcome to SpicyMayo.ca! We started talking about and planning this blog with our many friends who work as cooks, waiters, bartenders, bakers, etc. There are always a lot of food ideas and experiences we couldn’t properly share though creating food in our various cooking jobs.  Also rants and venting which, while may be hilarious or justified, can only be shared anonymously.  So here it is, family dinners, secret recipes, miserable failures, and more. Tuck in, salute, cheers, and as the Greek say bottoms up!
